Getting in
For Indian passports
Sri Lanka has run a free or nominally priced entry scheme for Indian passport holders on and off since 2023, and the rules have changed more than once in that time. Treat the current position as something to check rather than assume: apply through the official portal at eta.gov.lk before you fly, and be wary of the lookalike sites that charge a fee for the same form.
Your passport needs six months of validity from the date you arrive. Immigration can ask for a return ticket and proof of where you are staying, so have both on your phone.
Indian rupees are not accepted and cannot be exchanged easily on arrival — carry US dollars or use an ATM at the airport. UPI is not usable here; Indian debit and credit cards work in hotels and larger restaurants, and nowhere else reliably.
