  2. Day 2 Kandy, all day No long drive — everything today is in and around the town
    • Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic The most revered Buddhist site on the island and a UNESCO listing. Shoulders and knees covered, shoes off.
    • Royal Botanical Gardens The largest garden in the country, at Peradeniya. Orchids, an avenue of palms, and shade when the afternoon gets heavy.
    • Gem museum Sri Lankan sapphires, rubies and topaz, and how they get from the ground to the window.
    • Kandyan dance show, then the lake Drummers, costume and the fire-walking finish, then a walk round the water afterwards.

    Second night in Kandy.

  6. Day 6 Bentota to Colombo, and the city 90 km · about 1 hour 30 minutes
