Getting in
For Indian passports
The national visa rules apply here unchanged: visa on arrival for Indian passport holders who also hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit, and a pre-arranged tourist visa otherwise. Six months of passport validity. Landing at Sharjah rather than Dubai makes no difference to any of it.
What is different here is the local law, and it is the reason people get caught out. Sharjah is completely dry. There are no bars, no licensed restaurants and no hotel minibars, and carrying alcohol into the emirate — including in a car from Dubai, and including duty-free bought at the airport — is an offence rather than an oversight.
The decency laws are also stricter and are written down rather than implied: shoulders and knees covered in public for men and women, no unmarried couples sharing a room in principle, and no public displays of affection. Hotels apply the room rule with varying strictness; the dress rule is applied everywhere.
None of it makes the emirate unwelcoming — it is calm, safe and easy. It does mean the answer to “is this allowed” is different from the answer thirty kilometres away.
